Virtual Appointments

Virtual Physiotherapy is a virtual visit with your physiotherapist using a computer, tablet or smartphone, in the comfort of your own home or workplace.

Due to COVID-19, the Ontario Chief Medical Officer has recommended that physiotherapy care begin with a virtual assessment, and transitions to in-person appointments when appropriate. Our Virtual Physiotherapy appointments are done using a safe, secure platform. Your initial assessment will be a one-on-one consultation with one of our practitioners and will include a thorough history and assessment of your condition through movements and tests that you will be guided through. Your practitioner will discuss your goals and will develop a personalized treatment plan. If at-home exercises are suitable, your practitioner will create a detailed program for you that can be emailed or sent via text message. Virtual Physiotherapy is covered by most health insurance plans. Please check with your insurance company to see if you are covered.

The McKenzie Method

The McKenzie Method

The McKenzie Method of MDT is a reliable assessment process intended for all musculoskeletal problems, including pain in the back, neck and extremities (i.e., shoulder, knee, ankle etc.), as well as issues associated with sciatica, sacroiliac joint pain, arthritis, degenerative disc disease, muscle spasms and intermittent numbness in hands or feet. If you are suffering from any such issues, then a MDT assessment may be right for you!

Developed by world-renowned expert physiotherapist Robin McKenzie in the 1950s, this well-researched, exercise based approach of assessment, diagnosis and treatment uses a comprehensive and clinically reasoned evaluation of patients without the use of expensive diagnostic imaging (e.g. x-rays and MRIs). The treatment principles of the McKenzie Method promote the body’s potential to repair itself and do not involve the use of medication, heat, cold, ultrasound, needles, or surgery. McKenzie allows patients to learn the principles and empowers them to be in control of their own symptom management, which can reduce dependency on medical intervention.

Pelvic Health

Pelvic Health

Pelvic floor Physiotherapy is a treatment for the relief of pelvic floor dysfunction. The pelvic floor includes muscles, nerves and connective tissues that support the pelvic floor and organs within the pelvis. Male, female and pediatric patients can benefit from pelvic floor physiotherapy.

Common problems associated with pelvic floor dysfunction:

  • Leaking when coughing, sneezing, laughing and exercising
  • Rushing to get to the washroom or a fear of leaking
  • Increased visits to the washroom
  • Pain in the low back, tailbone, abdomen, front of pelvis and externally down below
  • Feelings of heaviness, or bulging inside the vagina or rectum
  • Constipation
  • Difficulty with intercourse

Treatment begins with a detailed history and physical assessment including an internal examination. The assessment will evaluate posture, breathing, muscle strength and weakness and movement patterns. The internal examination will assess the internal integrity of the pelvis which is key to determining a diagnosis and treatment plan. Treatment of the pelvic floor can include: manual therapy; exercise such as kegels, reverse kegels; breathing techniques; biofeedback (a machine that lets you see your muscle contraction); acupuncture; and muscle stimulation to increase strength.

Post-Concussion Therapy

Post-Concussion Therapy

Your Physiotherapist will work cooperatively with your physician, and other health care providers to assist with recovery and monitor return to activity following a concussion. After an initial assessment, treatment is focussed on education regarding appropriate activity, strategies to maximize recovery, treatment for problems with balance, equilibrium or vertigo as well as associated musculoskeletal problems. A plan for your return to activity will be developed, implemented and monitored as appropriate.

TMJ (Temporal Mandibular Joint) Treatment

TMJ (Temporal Mandibular Joint) Treatment

TMJ physiotherapy can reduce pain and inflammation while improving TMJ movement and function. Physiotherapy treatment begins with a thorough assessment to determine the problems that need to be addressed and the development of a treatment plan. Treatment focuses on the TMJ as well as other body parts that may contribute to TMJ problems and includes ongoing client education.

Vestibular Rehabilitation

Vestibular Rehabilitation

Vestibular Rehabilitation treats balance, dizziness and vertigo related concerns. Vestibular disorders are common and most often can be caused by problems with the crystals of the inner ear (vertigo), infection, concussion, stroke, certain diseases, aging, brain injury, and medication. Physiotherapy intervention includes a thorough history and physical assessment followed by the development of goals and a treatment plan. Treatment is focused on client education regarding self-management techniques and exercises and may include manual therapy or other Physiotherapy intervention.

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care is helpful for the entire musculoskeletal system. A Chiropractor will work with you to diagnose your problem and then develop an evidence-based individualized treatment plan to help your body achieve its optimal level of function and performance. Chiropractors have specific training that allows them to proficiently treat the peripheral nervous system, joints and muscles. Chiropractic care includes spinal manipulation and mobilization as well as a variety of supportive and complementary modalities and techniques, such as education, exercise, and soft tissue therapy.
