Markus Walser
BSc, BHSc(PT)


A McMaster University graduate, Markus has worked in private orthopaedic practice since 1987 and established Walser and Associates Physiotherapists in 1993. A priority, continuing education has remained essential to Markus who has extensive training in manual therapy, soft tissue mobilization techniques, acupuncture and vertigo/balance disorders. He has been performing Independent Physiotherapy Evaluations and Functional Abilities Evaluations since 1990 for automobile insurance, medico-legal, long term disability insurance, employers and WSIB. Since 1989 he has been a preceptor, clinical instructor and lecturer for McMaster University, Lakehead University and local high schools. He has treated sports injuries including onsite sports medicine coverage since 1985 with an interest in chronic pain and TMJ disorder treatment for the past 15 years.

Actively involved in international alpine skiing, Markus is the chief official for the International Paralympic Committee as Head of Technical Control and Officiating since 2007. As a World Cup level Technical Delegate with the International Ski Federation, Markus was the Chief of Competition for Alpine Skiing for the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Winter Games in an extremely rewarding role. Since 2009, Markus has been a senior official at the IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships and will continue in this role for 2013. In addition, he has been awarded a key jury position at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games.

A priority to Markus, he has enjoyed volunteering for Thunder Bay community organizations for many years. As a board member of Wesway Respite Services for six years he has served as Secretary/Treasurer and Vice President. Continued involvement with the Alzheimer’s Society of Thunder Bay includes having been the Chair of the Walk for Memories. Such roles were inspired by his father’s 15 year long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease until he passed away in early 2011.

The father of three active and athletic sons, Markus remains engaged in the community through their school and sporting endeavors. Such roles include Parent Advisory Council chair/member for St. Pius School for 9 years; leader with Scouts (Cubs) Canada in Thunder Bay for 6 years; Lake Superior Ski Division – Alpine board member for 4 years; Alpine Ontario board member for 2 years; and Officials Chair for the Lake Superior Ski Division - Alpine for 5 years. Presently, Markus serves as a football referee with Thunder Bay Minor Football and SSSAA, a position he has held for 7 years. Passionate about skiing, Markus also enjoys cycling and spending time at the family cottage.
Michael Belcamino
H.B.PE., M.Sc., B.H.Sc(PT)., Cert. MDT, Cert


Michael Belcamino is a lifelong resident of Thunder Bay. Having practiced orthopaedic physiotherapy in Thunder Bay since 1994, Michael joined Walser and Associates 5 years ago, becoming a partner in 2011. Michael’s special interest is the lumbar and cervical spine, with a Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) designation from the McKenzie Institute International (MII). Michael has trained as an Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) with the Inter-Professional Spine Assessment and Education Clinics (ISAEC). His rehabilitation approach to low back pain incorporates the McGill (Stuart McGill, PhD) evidenced-based strengthening concepts. Michael received Manual Therapy training with the Ontario Orthopaedic Division (Canadian Physiotherapy Association) and Mulligan Concept Principles. He is a Faculty Member (lecturer) with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM), Thunder Bay Campus. Michael is the site coordinator for NOSM students, and has taught orthopaedics to NOSM students and medical residents. With a strong belief in the mentoring model, Michael continues to be a preceptor for physiotherapy students.

Michael has a keen interest in physiotherapy promotion and education and has delivered presentations to stakeholders such as health & safety associations, insurance groups, legal firms, and industry in the area of low back pain prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. Michael frequently uses taping facilitation techniques from the K-Taping (K-Taping International Academy) and Watson (Australian) perspective. He is a McMaster University graduate (BHSc,PT) and a Lakehead University graduate (HBPE-Physical Education; MSc – Applied Sport Sciences). His extensive knowledge of exercise physiology is reflected in his approach to physiotherapy practice. Michael is married and has two sons, and spends his spare time driving between hockey rinks, soccer fields and swimming pools. Over the years he has volunteered his time with local soccer organizations, hockey and football teams. Michael is a member of the Italian Society of Port Arthur.
Ann–Marie Migay
HBK, MScPT


Ann-Marie graduated from the University of Toronto with her Masters in Physical Therapy in 2003. Prior to this she graduated from Lakehead University with her Honors Bachelor in Kinesiology. Ann-Marie has continued her education in physical therapy by completing courses in manual therapy, acupuncture, soft tissue mobilization, myofascial release and vertigo.

Ann-Marie has completed her Level 3 Manual Therapy. As well, she has finished her Level 1 and 2, female and male pelvic incontinence and pain courses with the use of biofeedback. Ann-Marie has been actively involved as a preceptor and lecturer for the Northern Ontario School of Medicine(NOSM) and Lakehead University Kinesiology programs.

Ann-Marie has worked at Walser and Associates since 2004 and became a part owner in 2008. Her practice has focused on orthopaedics and sports medicine and has most recently ventured into pelvic physiotherapy. Ann–Marie is originally from Thunder Bay, Ontario and is actively involved in ringette, running and cross- country skiing.
Suzanne Renda
H.B.K., H.B.A., D.C., ART


Suzanne, born and raised in Thunder Bay, completed her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology at Lakehead University before eventually leaving the city to complete her Doctorate of Chiropractic, Cum Laude, from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto. However, being a strong advocate of life long learning, Suzanne returned to Lakehead University to further her academic pursuits by completing her degree in Psychology, while she worked to expand her clinical skill set by acquiring her status as a certified provider of Active Release Techniques (ART).

Since graduating in 2009, Suzanne has enjoyed working with a diverse range of patient populations. She enjoys treating all types of musculoskeletal conditions, ranging from the acute to the more chronic. In her treatment sessions, Suzanne uses a hands on approach that typically includes a combination of soft tissue techniques, diversified manipulation, and mobilizations. Furthermore, she firmly believes in educating patients on health promoting behaviours. She has a strong passion for fitness, which is transferred to her clients no matter what the age or injury. All of her clients will leave her office with some form of 'homework'!

When Suzanne isn’t at the office she enjoys staying physically active. Her activities range from weight training to swimming to crossfit. Suzanne does not tend to sit still very well, so catch her while you can!!
Shane Pattyson
MSc(PT), BSc(Kin)


Shane graduated from Lakehead University with an Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology degree (2013), and received his Masters of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Alberta (2015). Shane has taken additional coursework on neck and low back pain (McKenzie Part A and McGill Part 1), mobilization with movement (Mulligan Concept), manual therapy techniques, myofascial release, Acupuncture and in K-Taping application.

Born and raised in Thunder Bay, Shane has a passion for Northwestern Ontario. During the summer months, he enjoys spending time at the family camp fishing and ATV’ing. He also remains physically active year-round, including training at the gym and being active outdoors. Whether it’s returning to sport, work or play, Shane utilizes an active, patient-centered, treatment approach to help you achieve your rehabilitation goals.

Since graduating, Shane has practiced exclusively in orthopaedics, in a private practice setting. He is currently pursuing further certifications in manual therapy, Acupuncture/Dry needling, as well as other hands-on and evidence-based treatment techniques.
